During the 2004 Sea Island G8 Summit, Georgia’s Governor declared a “state of emergency,” seriously infringing on free speech activities. The G8 Justice Media Team worked to defend civil liberties with an offense in the media, and used the media’s lens spread the word about the demonstrations, which called for an end to the Iraq war and unjust economic globalization. United for Peace & Justice worked to assemble the G8 Justice Media team to amplify the voices for change at the G8 Summit; smartMeme assisted with team conference call facilitation; the development of a messaging document; and remote support.
