Friends of the River

SmartMeme’s team facilitated our first coalition meetings and fostered trust among diverse groups while moving our agenda forward. SmartMeme’s understanding of cross-cultural issues enabled them to bring together our diverse group of Native American Tribes and conservation groups to build a campaign plan and get it off the ground.”

SmartMeme provided consultation and cross cultural facilitation to help build a coalition uniting environmentalists, four tribal governments and commercial fishermen in a campaign to remove dams and protect endangered salmon species in Northern California’s Klamath basin. In July 2004 representatives of the tribes and other groups traveled to Scotland to protest Scottish Power’s annual shareholder’s meeting and attracted international media attention and public support to their cause. SmartMeme also designed a provocative direct-mail piece for the campaign to build local support in California and Oregon.
