SmartMeme was onsite to amplify the voices calling for people’s food sovereignty at the 2003 Sacramento Ministerial, a pre-WTO meeting of Agriculture Ministers and agri-business corporations.

SmartMeme worked with a coalition of environmental, family farm and direct action groups to organize a mass mobilization at the US Department of Agriculture’s Corporate Agriculture Ministerial in Sacramento, CA in June 2003. Our support for the mobilization included action design, messaging, media strategy and anchoring the mobilization media team. The mobilization resulted in international media coverage as well as the United State’s largest protest against genetic engineering and corporate control of agriculture.
