Patrick lives in San Francisco and staffs smartMeme's west coast office. He engages in strategic consulting, messaging, group facilitation, mass mobilization organizing, media relations, and writing for smartMeme's clients and partners. He also helps coordinate smartMeme’s STORY (Strategy, Training & Organizing Resources for Youth) training program.

Patrick is a longtime grassroots organizer, campaigner and media strategist who has worked on a wide range of issues including forest protection, nuclear power, police brutality, urban sprawl, peace in Northern Ireland, indigenous rights, and numerous local and global environmental justice struggles.

Patrick spent four years as the organizing director of the Rainforest Action Network where he mobilized thousands of people to confront corporations who destroy the environment and violate human rights. His work included a successful campaign forcing Home Depot to stop buying old growth forest products, campaigns against the oil and finance industries and building an international solidarity network for Colombia’s traditional U'wa people.

Patrick has been deeply involved in the emerging movement against corporate globalization as a mass direct action organizer, media spokesperson, trainer and educator. He has been involved in organizing numerous mass direct actions from the 1999 shutdown of the World Trade Organization in Seattle to San Francisco’s mass civil disobedience against the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq.

He frequently writes and speaks about the ecology movement, global resistance to U.S. Empire Inc., indigenous rights and the theory and practice of social change. He has been a guest lecturer at a range of universities including NYU, Stanford and the Annenburg School of Communications. Several of his strategy essays were recently published by City Lights Press in the anthology Globalize Liberation: How to Uproot the System and Build a Better World.

When Patrick’s not organizing or dreaming up new geeky revolutionary jargon he spends his time parenting, wandering urban space, learning to play go and playing music for his friends.
