J lives in Chicago and staffs smartMeme's Midwest office. An award winning filmmaker, intuitive graphic designer, and occasional musician, J brings to smartMeme his creative and visual talents. As smartMeme’s Creative Director, he is responsible for ad and collateral graphic design, video production, and concepting for creative actions and marketing stunts for smartMeme's clients and partners.

J is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) with over 15 years of professional experience working in the visual arts. His past work has ranged from corporate efforts for the likes of Columbia Records, MTV and Nickelodeon, to independent films, interactive video games, music videos, documentaries, and arts and educational projects. J has been a guest instructor at the Art Institute of Chicago and has presented his work at media festivals around the U.S and in Europe.

Since 1999, J has used video and graphic design as tools of documentation, outreach and education to support issues and struggles related to ecological sustainability, food sovereignty, global justice, government and corporate accountability, police brutality, civil rights, housing activism, eminent domain, world peace, and deeper democracy. Incorporating his visual training and skill as a communicator of images and ideas, his current work has been largely reserved for noncommercial social change related services.

Examples of J's past work have included widely seen designs such as the Cheney "Got Oil?” image for the 2002 World Economic Forum, the Eco-Bloc poster design for the 2003 Miami FTAA, and the Krafted campaign's giant "Mac & Genes" box. His film and video work has screened in festivals and art museums throughout the U.S. and Europe. He is a regular contributor to numerous publications dealing with current events, independent media and social change.
