Ilyse lives in San Francisco. She is one of the founders of smartMeme and assists clients and partners with strategic consulting and training, while shaping the direction of the organization and training curriculum as Chair of the Board of Directors.
Ilyse currently works with the Rainforest Action Network as the Director of the Global Finance Campaign, which highlights the role of the corporate financial system within the environmental crisis. Her work recently forced Citigroup -- the world's largest private financial institution-- to adopt landmark environmental and human rights standards on their international project financing.
Ilyse’s experience ranges from electoral campaigns, to Greenpeace USA’s ancient forest campaign, to organizing community-based groups around clean water demands and environmental racism in Austin, Texas. Ilyse has been closely involved with media and organizing around mass mobilizations including those against the WTO in Seattle, the World Bank/IMF in DC, the Democratic National Convention in LA, the UN Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa, the FTAA meetings in Miami, and the Republican National Convention protests in New York.
She has extensive experience as a trainer, campaign strategist and media analyst including work within the independent media movement. Ilyse holds a Master's of Science in Resource Ecology Management from the University of Michigan. She has done community-based ecological work in Central America and Australia, as well as in the northern boreal forests of the US and Canada.
