This position is for an experienced candidate who can lead smartMeme’s national training program, coordinate our network of trainers and provide narrative strategy training for frontline organizers working on some of the most critical and vibrant campaigns in the country on issues of climate change, environmental justice, labor rights, racial justice, human rights and more. Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all aspects of story-based strategy training program, including planning and eventually leading trainings in cities around the country
- Manage the training program budget (including scholarships for trainee applicants)
- Recruit participants to trainings and forge long-term relationships with movement leaders, groups and alliances
- Leadership development, including identification and cultivation of new and current trainers in the network; and contribute to the development of the strategic direction of the program
- Coordinate with SmartMeme Operations Manager on logistics and promotion of the trainings

Qualifications/Requirements: 5+ years experience in organizing, campaigning and/or communications roles - preferably in a social justice organization or a progressive communications shop. Ideally you are familiar with both skill sets.
- Skilled trainer and facilitator, with experience cultivating skills of others
- Familiarity and kinship with smartMeme’s mission and story-based strategy methodology as detailed in the book Re:Imagining Change.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with an emphasis on managing details
- Project management and multi-tasking experience
- Interest in organizational leadership, team building, and supporting the organization’s fundraising efforts. You are invested in building the organization as well as building the capacity of our partners.
- Self-starter and self-directed while committed to communication and collaboration
- National travel required, approximately 40 days per year. Approximately 30 training days per year in 6+ cities, plus travel for staff planning sessions and movement-building.
- Must work from SmartMeme office in Boston, MA or Oakland, CA
