“Challenging, productive, practical.”

“Excellently executed.”

"The most useful training I've ever been to."

smartMeme has trained over 4,000 activists since 2002 and collaborated and consulted with over 150 social change organizations to apply this framework to critical campaigns. By popular demand, we are offering a series of 1 day story-based strategy trainings for strategists, communicators, and organizers in cities around the country.

Storytelling has always been a powerful tool for organizers and movement builders to name problems, unite constituencies, and mobilize people towards solutions. Story-based strategy links this traditional organizing technique with new strategy, training, and communications methods––like framing and branding-–to give social change advocates the tools to hone their story, challenge prevailing cultural narratives, and ultimately win campaigns on the issues that affect all our lives.

THE ONE DAY TRAININGS offer a unique opportunity to learn basic story-based strategy skills such as framing, narrative power analysis, and effective message development.  smartMeme’s hands on, multimedia curriculum will help you integrate the power of storytelling into your organizing and campaign strategy. Included in the tuition of $250*, participants receive lunch, training materials, and a copy of smartMeme’s book Re:Imagining Change -- How to use story-based strategy to win campaigns, build movements, and change the world. Each of these workshops will run from 9:30AM-5PM. APPLY NOW.

THE 2012 ADVANCED PRACTITIONER’S TRAINING will take place near Boston, MA at the beautiful Essex Conference Center and Retreat from April 15-19, 2012. Please save the date - Applications will be opened soon.

The Advanced Training is designed as a full immersion 5 day, 4 night residential experience. This training aims to grow the progressive movement’s network of story-based strategy practitioners. The Advanced Training is for smartMeme training alumni or practitioners familiar with the story-based strategy approach, either from attending a training in the past or partnering directly with smartMeme through their organization. Folks with this experience will be prioritized when reviewing applications, but please apply if you feel this is the right training for you. Space is limited.

The Advanced Training provides deep exposure to smartMeme’s story-based Strategy curriculum. Participants will learn how to integrate narrative power analysis into their campaign work and get hands on experience facilitating story-based strategy exercises. Intensive team-based simulations provide an opportunity to apply story-based strategy concepts to current issues and organizing challenges. This comfortable location, just north of Boston on the coast, offers a chance to shift gears and thinking.

Included in the tuition of $1500* is 4 nights lodging, delicious meals, and 4 days of intensive facilitated training on story-based strategy.

*Scholarships may be available for all trainings. Please do not hesitate to apply. We also offer discounts if multiple members of an organization want to attend.
