SmartMeme is a collective founded in 2002 dedicated to amplifying the voices of peace, justice, democracy, and ecological sanity. SmartMeme supports movements with strategic social change communications, working with grassroots groups and campaigning organizations from coast to coast.
Internships are now available to enable activists to plug into smartMeme's new youth-focused training initiative: STORY (Strategy, Training, and Organizing Resources for Youth).
This internship is a unique opportunity that is designed to help develop the skills of participants as grassroots organizers, trainers, communicators, and effective change agents.
You are a great candidate if you:
--Have a passion for social change work
--Hold a strong commitment to strategic anti-war, social justice, and ecological activism
--Have some experience working with a youth/student activist organization
--Are looking to build your skills, networks, and experiences as a social change practitioner...
Responsibilities of interns may include:
--Research (opposition research, media climate assessment, etc)
--Media Work (media list building, collaboration on media releases and statements)
--Outreach & Promotion (tabling, mailings, etc)
--Organizing and Logistics (for smartMeme trainings and other STORY events)
--Development Work (the hands on work of building this exciting new organization!)
All Spring internships require working at smartMeme's office in beautiful BURLINGTON, VERMONT for a minimum of 14 hours per week for a period of three months.
Summer internships are in the works for SAN FRANCISCO, CA and SKOKOMISH NATION, WA.
Interns work with an experienced staff member who designs and oversees the completion of a special project. Interns participate in the day-to-day operations of the STORY program as well. Some travel may be required to STORY related trainings and events.
SmartMeme will cover commuting and travel expenses into the field required by the position (interns may travel to trainings and events throughout the summer).
A small housing stipend is available to the right candidate who can put in 20+ hours/week.
At the completion of the internship, each intern is given a chance to evaluate their internship, a letter of reference, and the waiver of fees to smartMeme's autumn STORY gathering...and some cool smartMeme gear!
